Day Ten: I Will Dance

I had a terrible night's sleep. I tossed and turned. I am a daydreamer, but I don't usually wake due to vivid bizarre tales spun in my head while I am in my cozy bed. How will I counteract the fog that I am in? I will dance. Today my class will have our incredible dance instructor, Jane Glaser, come from The Los Angeles Music Center. I will take advantage of this incredible opportunity and dance.

Perhaps tonight's dreams will more closely resemble my daydreams.

Day Six- A Standing Desk

I am thinking a standing desk would be a good thing. I remember reading about the benefits a while back.  Here is an article with the pros and cons of a standing desk. I have a pub height table but it is a little low for prolonged work. I think putting it on top of something, maybe one of these little decorator trunks I have a collection of, might do the trick. And an an anti-fatigue mat. Yeah, I am on it!

This one works!

Day 5- Take a Walk With a Child

Take a walk with a child. When you walk out the door, let the child be the trailblazer. Pay attention to where the child leads you and listen intently to what she has to say. Ask genuine questions and use "grown-up words".  Be amazed at the amazing, and use accurate vocabulary to describe what your senses are sensing.  Ask about what the child notices, feels, and wonders about. Be in the moment and enjoy the sojourn.

Update Day Four New Body Practice: I Will Not Hide from the Camera

I recently read a Huffington Post piece by Allison Tate who promised to put herself back into her family photos. (Thank you to my amazing sister Morgan for finding the link.) Take some time to look at the over 2000 beautiful women who uploaded photos with their children.  My doing that is something to write about another day. I am keeping my word to stay inspired by bright women forging good body images. Here is a link to the blog  My Friend Theresa that has more to say on the subject. (Thank you Dara!)

Classic!
I tend to hide from the camera- sending a terrible message to my three daughters. That's it! I will not hide behind bags or young children, but I will be in the moment and beg someone capture it- okay at least tolerate it without screaming, "No!"

Day Three : Yoga Pants, And... Only... If...But...

So on Day Two I did watch Brittany's TED Talk video as part of my 100 Days of New Body Practice. I laughed, cried, and cheered for her.  What she did shouldn't have to be seen as brave, but growing up on the beaches of Southern California I know how well it was. I can't remember the last time I've been without my cover-up whilst at the shore. (See being of my size and shape makes me automatically odd and begs me to use terms like "whilst at the shore.") I just don't fit in in my home town. I am not sure I will venture out on a bike in a bikini anytime soon, but it did give me inspiration.

On her blog,  Hanne Blank talked about going through her closet and evaluating her workout gear. Ha! About the only thing I've found myself wearing lately is yoga pants. I live in Los Angeles and can totally get away with it. Even after getting rid the grubbies I have a stack of black yoga pants that mimics the Tower of Pisa. Starting tomorrow, I am going to limit my yoga pant wearing to exercise.

Just a few years ago I was featured in a USA Today Weekend Edition as a "Super Mom" and wrote on beauty. Let's not get into the fact that when they saw my snapshot they decided not to send a photographer to do a shoot. But, what has happened to me? Why the hell isn't my inner beauty shining?

While I haven't found the on-line post of the issue, I did find an humorous blog in response to it. Just to let you know- I was the "Let Your Inner Beauty Shine" super mom. I guess I am just going to have to take a photo of my hard copy.

I digress. For the next 98 days I will dress for work. Okay, I might dress in Yoga Pants on Mondays, when we have an hour long dance class by another amazing woman, Jane Glaser from The Los Angeles Music Center, but only if I really plan to dance, really dance. Oh, and on Thursdays, but only if I keep my promise and go walking with the walking group after school. And...but...if... only.... This may be the most challenging New Body Practice!

Day Two: The Power of Social Media

Today I will be inspired by bright people with good things to say about developing a positive body image and honoring the body I live in.

It is amazing how I've been introduced to these people. I read and fell in love with Elenor Brown's, The Wicked Sisters over the holidays. I, of course, just had to check in with her Face Book page, where she just happens to have book giveaways.

A recent giveaway featured Hanne Block's new book,The Unapologetic Fat Girl's Guide to Exercise and Other Incendiary Acts. Which then lead me to Hanne Block's Blog.

Yesterday I also posted my first 100 Day Blog on Facebook and "SURPRISE!" up pops Brittany Gibbon's Huffington Post blog- Fat Fat Shaming Doesn't Work -- Here's Why.That took me to her TED Talk, which I will watch today.

Today I will watch Brittany's TED Talk and check out her blog Brittany Herself.

Day One of New Body Practice

Today with the help of Hanne Blank's Blog I will start a new body practice. I love long walks, and the fact they have taken a back seat to work changes today. I will walk a lot more. I will join the walking group at work, I mean, just look at the view!
